Documentation & Tutorials

Welcome to the Storyboard Creator AI documentation hub. Click a topic below to learn more.

Creating Your First Storyboard

Begin by navigating to the "Storyboards Tab," which displays all your existing projects. To start a new one, simply tap the "New Storyboard" button. This action creates a new, empty storyboard project, ready for you to populate with your creative vision. You can then give your project a relevant name to keep your work organized.

Understanding the User Interface

The app's main interface is organized into three distinct tabs for a clear and efficient workflow:

  • Storyboards Tab: This is your central hub for managing storyboard projects. It displays a list of all your existing storyboards and features the "New Storyboard" button to initiate new projects.
  • Video Tab: Here, you can view the history of videos you've generated. It also lists any videos that are currently queued or pending generation, allowing you to track their progress.
  • Settings Tab: This tab allows you to customize the app to your preferences. You can manage AI model selections, image customization options, and your account details.

Setting Up Your Preferred AI Models

In the "Settings Tab," you have full control over the AI models used for generation:

  • AI Model Selection: Choose your default models for different categories:
    • Text Models: e.g., Gemini 2.0 Flash (Default), GPT-4o Mini, GPT-4o, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Gemini 2.5 Pro.
    • Image Models: e.g., Flux Dev (Default), Flux Schnell, Minimax Image, Google Imagen 3 Fast*, Flux With Character Consistency, Flux Realism, Recraft v3, Google Imagen 3*, SD 3.5 Large, Flux Ultra.
    • Video Models: e.g., MiniMax Video-01 (Default), Ray 2 Flash, Ray 2.

    * Note: Google Imagen models do not support sketch and illustration styles.

  • Image Customization:
    • Image Style: Select from various artistic styles such as realistic, illustration, or sketch to match your project's aesthetic.
    • Image Aspect Ratio: Choose the desired aspect ratio for your images (e.g., 16:9 landscape, 1:1 square, 9:16 vertical).
  • Account Management: Manage your subscription (e.g., Basic, Pro), view your remaining generation credits, and access detailed AI model pricing information.

Generating Shots from Text Prompts Effectively

The core of storyboard creation lies in generating shots from your ideas. Here's how it works:

  1. Initiation: Within an open storyboard project, tap the "Generate Shots from Text Prompt" button.
  2. Prompt Input Form: A form will appear with several fields to guide the AI:
    • Text Prompt Field: Enter the core textual description of your scene or shots. Be as descriptive as possible.
    • Genre Picker: Select a genre (e.g., Sci-Fi, Drama) to influence the tone and style.
    • LLM Picker: Optionally, override your default LLM choice for this specific generation task.
    • Number of Shots: Specify how many distinct shots you want the AI to generate from your prompt.
    • Skip Image Generation Toggle: If enabled, the app generates only the textual details (characters, locations, dialogue, etc.). Images can then be generated manually per shot or in bulk later. If disabled, images are automatically generated after shot details are created.
  3. Execution: Tap the "Generate" button. The app communicates with the backend to process your request.
  4. Output: Generated shots, complete with details like characters, locations, time of day, camera angle, and dialogue, are returned and displayed in your storyboard.
  5. Iterative Process: You can repeat this for different scenes or to add more shots. New shots are appended to the existing storyboard.

Advanced Shot Editing and Customization

Select an individual shot to access the "Edit Shot" view for detailed customization:

  • Manual Detail Editing: All AI-generated shot details (characters, location, time, camera angle, dialogue) can be manually edited to perfection.
  • Custom Image Prompt: Enable "Custom Text Prompt" for image generation to use your own specific prompt, overriding the structured shot details. If disabled, the app constructs the image prompt from the shot's structured details.
  • Edit Image by Text Prompt: A dedicated button allows you to regenerate or refine the shot's current image by providing a new descriptive text prompt.
  • Image History: Access a sheet displaying all previously generated image versions for that shot. Tap an image to set it as current, or long-press to delete a version.
  • Image Context Menu: Long-press the main image in the "Edit Shot" view for options like "Save to Photo Library" or "Copy to Clipboard."
  • Face Swap: Use the "Face Swap" button to select an image from your photo library and attempt to swap the face in the current shot's image with the selected one.
  • Create Video from Shot: A "Create Video" button adds the shot to the Video tab's generation queue and automatically initiates video text prompt generation.
  • Video Indicator: A small video icon appears on a shot's thumbnail once a video is successfully generated for it.
  • Detail Pickers/Fields: Editable fields or pickers are available for characters, shot location, lighting, camera angle, and dialogue.

Image Generation: Styles, Prompts, and History

Achieve your desired visual style with precise control over image generation:

  • Image Styles: In the "Settings Tab" under "Image Customization," select a default style like Realistic, Illustration, or Sketch. Note that some models, like Google Imagen 3 and Google Imagen 3 Fast, do not support sketch and illustration styles. Always check model compatibility for specific styles.
  • Aspect Ratios: Also in "Settings," choose from standard aspect ratios (e.g., 16:9, 1:1, 9:16) to ensure your images fit your project's framing.
  • Custom Prompts in Edit Shot View: For maximum control over a specific shot's image, use the "Custom Text Prompt" option in the "Edit Shot" view. This allows you to write a detailed prompt that the AI will use instead of relying solely on the structured shot data.
  • Refining Images: Use the "Edit Image by Text Prompt" button in the "Edit Shot" view to iteratively refine an existing image by providing new text cues.
  • Image History: Don't lose good generations! The "Image History" feature in the "Edit Shot" view lets you see all past versions of an image for a shot, revert to a previous one, or delete unwanted versions.

Creating Videos from Your Storyboards

Bring your still shots to life by generating short video clips. Videos can be created in two main ways:

  • From Storyboard Shots: In the "Edit Shot" view, tapping "Create Video" sends the shot's image and data to the Video tab to queue it for video generation.
  • From Imported Images: Use the "Import Image" button (likely in the Video tab) to select images from your device's photo library to be turned into videos.
The video generation process in the "Video Tab" is as follows:
  1. Automatic Video Prompt Generation: When an image is added to the queue, the app automatically generates an initial video text prompt based on available information (shot details or image analysis).
  2. Prompt Customization: An "Edit Text Prompt" button allows you to review and refine this automatically generated prompt before starting video generation.
  3. Initiating Generation: You can generate videos individually per item or use a "Generate All" button for batch processing.
  4. Background Processing: Video generation is a background task, so you can close the app. The AI video model selected in Settings is used.
  5. Notifications: Receive a push notification when a video is successfully generated.
  6. Accessing Videos: Generated videos will be available in the Video tab upon re-opening the app.

Managing Characters and Locations

For consistency across your projects, Storyboard Creator AI allows you to manage libraries of characters and locations. These can be added, edited, or removed through dedicated "Characters" and "Locations" management sections, typically accessible from the main storyboard view or a global library within the app's settings. Once defined, these characters and locations will be available in pickers within the "Edit Shot" view, making it easy to assign them to specific shots.

Exporting Your Projects (PDF & ZIP)

Once your storyboard is complete, you can export it from the storyboard detail view using the "Export" button:

  • PDF Export: Selecting this option brings up a sheet where you can choose PDF layout options (e.g., vertical or horizontal orientation) before generating the PDF file.
  • ZIP Archive Export: Choosing "Export ZIP" (or "Export Project Files") generates a ZIP archive containing:
    • All original resolution images from your storyboard.
    • A CSV (Comma Separated Values) file containing all structured shot data (characters, locations, dialogue, camera angles, text prompts used, etc.), perfect for use in other production tools.
